“Hilarious… Hils Barker is a very gifted comic.” Metro

“One of the most innovative and relevant acts you’ll see this year”. Three Weeks

As a stand-up newcomer, Hils was a finalist in Channel 4’s ‘So You Think You’re Funny’ and ‘The Daily Telegraph Open Mic Award. She followed this up by writing and performing two series of the groundbreaking sketch show ‘Radio 9’ for Radio 4. Co-written with Johnny Daukes, it was described a “a hoot” by the Independent and “wonderful… in the great English tradition of nonsensical humour laced with a dash of social satire”’ by the FT.

Hils went on to write and perform for TV and radio shows such as the Late Edition, The Message, The Now Show, Act Your Age, Shappi Talk, The Comic Side of Seven Days, 28 Acts In 28 Minutes, The Stephen K Amos Show and The Arthur Smith Lectures, among many others. In 2008, she was also invited to the U.S. to perform on NBC’s Last Comic Standing, and then in late 2009, played the Hammersmith Apollo for the first time, performing stand-up alongside Jimmy Carr, Russell Howard and Stephen Merchant, as part of the Friends Of The Earth gig.

As an actress, Hils’ work includes satirical sketch show The Message (BBC 3), Channel 4’s Ten Years of Blair. both series of Vent by Nigel Smith for Radio 4 and, recently, three sitcom pilots. These are: Tropical London by Liam Mullone (produced by Richard Grocock), I’m Not With Him by Andrew Ellard (Script Editor of the IT Crowd and Red Dwarf - and available to download here) and her own sitcom pilot, Superconnected (produced by Paul Jackson). It’s a race to see which one will get a series first.

She is currently working on her own sitcom, and two co-written projects with Rob Grant.
